Final Blog Post

By Gretchen Roderick

Since September, our group has been tirelessly working to understand what the impacts of Brexit will be on the economy, politics and the society on a global scale. Our first post covered the basics; the who, what, when, where, why. We briefly discussed the historical relevance and what it means now for the people of the EU, Great Britain and the world. Our second post was on the Economic impact of Brexit currently and what analyst say will most likely happen in the near future. But even seasoned economic analysts are unsure about what this will mean for the economies who have integrated business into the country. Our third post was on culture, immigration and the backlash therefore. This post analysis the social impact of the split and who will be effected the most. We found that refugees and immigrants were the most at risk, being that their living situations are so fragile. All-in-all, our group covered a wide range of issues post Brexit and effects it has had and will have on the world.

We first organized what we wanted to discuss thought the semester. After that, it was easier to divide and concur. We all got to pick the topics we were most interested in i.e. economic sector, cultural impacts, or immigration. This made it more engaging for us all. In researching, I used the USF library resource Fusion for the majority of the information I needed. I like using Fusion because its easy, concise and trustworthy. I also would keep an eye out for top news reports regarding any changes or developments in the situation in Britain. I liked the group nature of the assignment because it made us utilize each others strengths and interests. It also was nice to have the support and guidance from everyone when writing and researching. I also think it was easy for us because everyone was so kind and also willing to help. In general, our whole team worked so well together, which made it really enjoyable.

I knew about Brexit only from the headlines and breaking news apps I have on my phone, so it goes without saying I hadn't done any real research into Brexit or things surrounding the topic. I am interested primarily in economics especially international economics, which is a major part of what Brexit is about. It was exciting and interesting to apply what I've learned here at USF from my classes to a real life scenario and do, almost a mini case study. It was really cool, not only to understand the concepts that were within the articles I used for my research, but be able to derive my own conclusions and be able to anticipate what would result from some of the decisions being made. Generally, group work sucks. Having to coordinate and meet outside of class, and being able to produce quality work that is representative of everyones best sometimes can be difficult. But I didn't feel that way at all in this group. We worked very well together and I can honestly say I had great time with these girls! Group work has taught me to be patient, and understanding while also being accountable for myself and my work. In the end, I feel like I had one of the best groups and I thoroughly enjoyed working with these girls.
